This website is updated and maintained by WSHR alum Joe Corbisiero. I have been a member of the station since taking Broadcast Journalism back in 2011 (which I recommend you do if you are a Sachem student). During that first year I hosted a rock show where I had the opportunity to interview CJ Ramone of the world famous Ramones. The following year I became the station’s Operations Manager and helped train new students on how to work at a radio station, while also managing the day to day operations of the station.
Currently I am a Business Management major at Hofstra University. I am also a part of their radio station, WRHU, where I am able to further my radio career by anchoring on their AP award winning show Newsline and by participating in New York Islanders game broadcasts.
Of course none of that would be possible without the experience and knowledge gained from my time at WSHR. Sachem radio has provided me with all the skills and tools I need to compete with other aspiring broadcasters. The interactions and experiences I’ve had with other staff members and station mentors has created long lasting friendships and given me knowledge that I can use to better my life outside the radio industry. WSHR not only provides you with the foundations for a future in broadcasting, but also the real life experience of how to work with a team, while giving you free reign to express yourself to thousands of Long Islanders. The experiences I’ve had at WSHR in no way compare with anything else I have done as a Sachem student. I highly recommend you take Broadcast Journalism if you are a Sachem student.
