But would people expect Washington, DC, to come second, ahead of Seattle (where it is legal to smoke pot) or the Democratic stronghold of Boston? That was the pudding time when moderation came back into fashion after the acerbities of the Korean War and the McCarthy era....

While I believe that # 2 and 3 are part of liberal philosophy, I doubt that #1 is part of it. It is humans spending time, money, and brainpower that really creates more wealth in our economy!

Whilst poll after poll, over many years, clearly shows that America is a predominantly Conservative nation, the Republican Party continues to lose elections because they continue to lose the ideological battle. Both the selected works of Phyllis Wheatley and Thomas Jefferson are actively working for the ideology of liberalism, which is a political ideology that is against any system that threatens the freedom of the individual and his natural rights and prevents the individual from becoming all the individual can be, specifically the importance of human individuality and the freedom of humanity from subservience to another group.... [tags: essays research papers] Classical Theory of Justice - The Classical Theory of Justice is definitely a complex issue to ponder.

Hitler and his followers believed that re-arming and expanding Germany’s armed forces was essential for the defence of the nation. In 1996, 40% of the public identified themselves as conservatives, 40% said they were moderates, and 20% claimed to be liberals. This was primarily a triumph in 'framing' public and media discourse.

Surely most men have lives just as hard as most women. This is a somewhat understandable criticism given that the word patriarchal is used colloquially to refer to male power, with the counter-claim generally arguing that if we take power to mean control over your own life, then men are just as deprived of power as women are. How can one become involved in wildlife conservation. More important, conservative candidates for public office have to do more than just rail against big government.

These processes should be interactive and involve all members of society. Yes, I do know the arguments against hate speech, against child pornography, against allowing terrorist to recruit on the internet, against several other good reasons that free speech shouldn't be unconditional. The coding of the violent video game case as involving a “conservative speaker” was justified on the grounds that “restricting (the business of) violent video games in the name of protecting children … is more frequently supported by liberals and derided by conservatives as an example of the nanny state.” The various cases involving bipartisan challenges to election laws were often coded as “conservative,” Epstein et al. say, because “a challenge motivated to bring about greater inclusion in the political process is liberal regardless of the challenger’s partisan label.” And challenges to election laws by third-party speakers, such as Forbes, were coded as liberal because “greater inclusion in the political process is coded as liberal regardless of the partisanship of the speaker.” Indeed, this revised claim in part simply reflects what we mean by “conservative” and “liberal.” For instance — and I speak here just of general tendencies, from which some on each side dissent — historically pornography bans have been seen as part of a “conservative” policy agenda.

In addition, they note that, “despite popular perceptions, the opposite of fascism is not communism but anarchism (ie liberal socialism), and that the opposite of communism (i.e. an entirely state-planned economy) is neo-liberalism (i.e. extreme deregulated economy).” This is made clear by another chart they have: A few other charts of theirs are of interest: (In the above, it is interesting to note how most of the world’s influential leaders, from the wealthiest and most poweful countries all fall into the area of authoritarian-right.) 3) It is also interesting to see how the three main British political parties have changed over time, as Political Compass shows: 4) The last US elections (2004) show the political spectrum between John Kerry and George W.

There is even a tendency, particularly among conservatives, to regard these battles as the domestic equivalent of war, as if the so-called "culture wars" had replaced the cold war as the great historic struggle of our time.

Many colonies - by definition not sovereign - had a low trade volume relative to GNP, because the bulk of 'GNP' consisted of peasant agriculture. Political ideologies in this inclusive sense have been studied primarily as aspects of political parties, movements, or other collective units. No less than a Muslim intellectual like M J Akbar has said that India is secular because of Hindus.
