Haphazard reality: Half a century of science by Hendrik Casimir

By Hendrik Casimir

Casimir, himself a recognized general practitioner, studied and labored with 3 nice physicists of the 20 th century: Niels Bohr, Wolfgang Pauli and Paul Ehrenfest. In his autobiography, the intense theoretician we could the reader witness the revolution that ended in quantum physics, whose impact on glossy society became out to be time and again better than the 1st atomic physicists can have imagined. via his involvement within the technical-scientific and the company features of physics, via administration positions at Philips examine Laboratory and as a member of the Board of administrators of Philips, Professor Casimir is definitely the right individual to put part a century of advancements in physics in the context of significant occasions on this planet.

Analysis und mathematische Physik by Hans Triebel

By Hans Triebel

Ricci flow and geometrization of 3-manifolds by John W. Morgan

By John W. Morgan

This e-book relies on lectures given at Stanford collage in 2009. the aim of the lectures and of the booklet is to offer an introductory assessment of ways to exploit Ricci movement and Ricci movement with surgical procedure to set up the Poincare Conjecture and the extra basic Geometrization Conjecture for three-dimensional manifolds. lots of the fabric is geometric and analytic in nature; a very important element is knowing singularity improvement for third-dimensional Ricci flows and for third-dimensional Ricci flows with surgical procedure. This figuring out is important for extending Ricci flows with surgical procedure in order that they are outlined for all confident time. as soon as this result's in position, one needs to learn the character of the time-slices because the time is going to infinity for you to deduce the topological outcomes. The objective of the authors is to provide the main geometric and analytic effects and issues of the topic with no weighing down the presentation with too many information. This booklet will be learn as an advent to extra whole remedies of a similar fabric

Hypergeometric Functions on Domains of Positivity, Jack by Donald St. P. Richards

By Donald St. P. Richards

This publication is the 1st set of lawsuits to be committed totally to the speculation of hypergeometric services outlined on domain names of positivity. many of the clinical parts within which those services are utilized comprise analytic quantity thought, combinatorics, harmonic research, random walks, illustration thought, and mathematical physics---are represented the following. This quantity relies principally on lectures offered at a different consultation on the AMS assembly in Tampa, Florida in March 1991, which used to be dedicated to hypergeometric services of matrix argument and to fostering conversation between representatives of the assorted medical parts during which those capabilities are applied. available to graduate scholars and others looking an advent to the state-of-the-art during this zone, this booklet is an appropriate textual content for complex graduate seminar classes for it includes many open difficulties

Classical Topics in Complex Function Theory by Reinhold Remmert (auth.)

By Reinhold Remmert (auth.)

This ebook is a perfect textual content for a sophisticated path within the conception of advanced services. the writer leads the reader to adventure functionality concept for my part and to take part within the paintings of the artistic mathematician. The e-book comprises a number of glimpses of the functionality concept of a number of advanced variables, which illustrate how independent this self-discipline has develop into. themes coated comprise Weierstrass's product theorem, Mittag-Leffler's theorem, the Riemann mapping theorem, and Runge's theorems on approximation of analytic services. as well as those regular issues, the reader will locate Eisenstein's evidence of Euler's product formulation for the sine functionality; Wielandt's strong point theorem for the gamma functionality; an in depth dialogue of Stirling's formulation; Iss'sa's theorem; Besse's facts that every one domain names in C are domain names of holomorphy; Wedderburn's lemma and the proper concept of jewelry of holomorphic services; Estermann's proofs of the overconvergence theorem and Bloch's theorem; a holomorphic imbedding of the unit disc in C3; and Gauss's specialist opinion of November 1851 on Riemann's dissertation. Remmert elegantly offers the cloth briefly transparent sections, with compact proofs and historic reviews interwoven through the textual content. The abundance of examples, workouts, and historic feedback, in addition to the broad bibliography, will make this publication a useful resource for college kids and academics.
